Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring pictures
Thank you, Lindsay! In the numerous photos the giddy actress posted on Instagram to announce her engagement, she gave us a great opportunity to see the ring from different angles. In this first photo we can see what appears to clearly be a cushion cut center diamond, set on what looks like a simple white gold or platinum band.
This next photo gives us a better view of the side of the ring, showing us that it has a pave band.
This last image really seals the deal on the pave situation.
What style setting is Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring?
We might not know every last detail, but it is confirmed that Lindsay Lohan’s ring was designed by celebrity jeweler Harry Winston.
Lohan’s post shows a spectacular cushion cut diamond set on a thin band encrusted with small diamonds. The band appears to either be white gold or platinum.
Pavé diamond rings (pronounced ‘pah-vay’) can broadly be thought of as a ring setting ‘paved’ with diamonds – lots of small diamonds covering the whole ring, including sometimes the underside of the band. To create the effect, a jeweler will drill a series of holes into the ring setting, place the diamonds into the holes and then create tiny prongs, or just beads of metal, over the edges of the diamonds, securing the stones in place.
The main reason for choosing a pavé setting is the huge bump in sparkle and beauty you get by adding pavé to the ring! By placing a large number of tiny diamonds very close together, you make sure that your ring will catch the light from any angle and sparkle brilliantly.
What shape is Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring?
The center stone of Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring is a cushion cut diamond.
Cushion cut engagement rings are a classic shape that are making a comeback, as more people realize that they offer a great combo of elegant style, incredible sparkle and great value.
Modern cushion cuts have taken the learnings of the past century on how light is reflected through ‘brilliant’ cut diamonds to increase their sparkle way beyond what you would find in a ring from 100 years ago. This has resulted in cushion cuts being one of the most confusing types of diamond out there due to the high number of variations on the shape. As people have tweaked and modified the shape of the cushion cut in its long and storied history, many different shapes and even names have been created.
As with many square-shaped diamonds, a big tick in the box for cushion cuts for engagement rings is their lower price than the much more common ’round brilliant’ shape.
Cushion cut diamonds are in lower demand, but also result in less wastage of the original rough diamond in their manufacture, so a larger finished gem can be created from a piece of rough stone.
How many carats is Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring?
Lohan’s center stone has been reported to be an approximately 5-6 carat cushion cut diamond.
How much did Lindsay Lohan’s engagement ring cost? And what’s it really worth?!
While we don’t know the official price, we can definitely speculate as to what a similar ring might cost.
The vast majority of the cost of the ring would be comprised of the diamond, with the setting making up a much smaller part of the total cost.
A top quality 5 carat cushion cut diamond with exceptional cut quality, color, and clarity costs around $400,000.
But the financier didn’t necessarily need to spend that much to get a beautiful center stone. By choosing lower clarity and color grades, the ring could be just as impressive for significantly less money:
