There’s a good range of styles available, with a choice of natural or lab-grown diamonds for the cenre stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the rings that feature natural diamonds are cluster set diamond rings (where several smaller diamonds are placed close together to give the impression of a larger stone), while other rings have larger centre stones. A cluster of smaller stones generally costs less than one larger diamond, so cluster settings can be a good option for those with a tighter budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The majority of the engagement ring styles that Paris Jewellers sell are either solitaire or halo settings \u2013 two classic styles that have stood the test of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The halo setting is a ring of small accent stones, typically pave diamonds, that encircle a larger centre stone. Halo settings can be the same shape as the centre stone, or they can be different, such as a cushion-cut halo around a round diamond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diamond cut is a measure of how well the diamond has been formed and it is essential that a diamond has good proportions to reflect light; otherwise it will be dull, lifeless and unimpressive. If a diamond is too tall or too shallow, it won\u2019t reflect much light:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding the cut quality of a diamond is absolutely essential to be able to understand whether it will sparkle. If you don\u2019t know the cut quality then you may very well be wasting your money.<\/p>\n\n\n

Paris Jewellers clearly understands the value of a well-cut diamond, and in the educational section of their FAQs page, they list ‘cut’ as the first item, highlighting its importance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite understanding the importance of diamond cut quality, Paris Jewellers doesn\u2019t show diamond cut grade information on their website for any of their diamonds. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see here, they show the carat weight, the colour and the clarity, but no cut grade:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without this information, you have no idea whether your ring will sparkle beautifully, or be dull and unimpressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I ask them why they don\u2019t show the cut information in their website, they replied \u201cWe are starting to update the website with this information however not all rings have it listed at this time\u201d. It can, however, be requested for individual rings if needed:<\/p>\n\n\n

Many other jewellers show the diamond cut quality information on their website, which makes it much easier to understand if a diamond is going to sparkle well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the other \u20184Cs\u2019 of diamonds are colour and clarity \u2013 important determinants of the quality of a diamond. If we look at their natural diamonds (listed as ‘Mined’ on the Paris website), many of the diamonds have lower clarity grades, like SI2 or I2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the ring below, Paris Jewellers are asking $12,799 for a ring with I1 clarity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heres’ where I1 clarity sits on the diamond clarity scale:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, it’s very close to the bottom of the clarity scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s how GIA describes ‘Included’ clarity diamonds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inclusions are obvious which may affect transparency, brilliance and durability.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

At I1 clarity, flaws in a diamond are likely to be visible, numerous and could pose a bigger durability risk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some examples of I1 clarity diamonds from an online retailer:<\/p>\n\n\n

These have all been graded by the very reliable GIA and you can see that the inclusions are very noticeable with the naked eye \u2013 not great. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My personal recommendation to get the best value for money is to shop for G or H colour diamonds with VS2 or eye-clean S1 clarity. Diamonds with these specifications strike the best balance between value for money and beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris Jewellers diamond grading labs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Diamonds are graded on four key factors \u2013 carat, colour, clarity and cut \u2013 and a host of smaller factors too. Diamonds which score higher are generally more expensive \u2013 an F colour diamond will be pricier than an H colour, if everything is the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important therefore that diamond grading levels can be trusted \u2013 you don\u2019t want to pay more for an F colour diamond if it is actually an H. This is why independent diamond testing labs are important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An independent testing lab doesn\u2019t have any incentive to say that a diamond is higher quality than it is, as they don\u2019t make any more money if they do. In fact, if they bump up diamond quality grades, it may mean people trust them less, which might mean they make less money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris Jewellers doesn\u2019t show any information about diamond grading lab on their website but they do have some GIA-graded diamonds and Canadian diamonds which come with certificates for the diamonds. For diamond rings that are not GIA or Canadian \u2013 they have the ring appraised by a third party gemmologist on any item for a fee of $75. When I asked them why they don’t show this important information, they replied; \u201cWe are starting to update the website with this information however not all rings have it listed at this time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a red flag for Paris Jewellers for me \u2013 it is infinitely better that your diamond is always checked by an independent laboratory to ensure that you can trust the information given about the quality of the diamond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, unlike independent grading labs, retailers do have an incentive to increase diamond quality scores, as it will mean that they can sell a diamond for a higher price. For this reason, I recommend that you always look for a diamond which has been graded by an independent authority \u2013 my usual recommendation is the GIA, although there are other good diamonds \u2018labs\u2019 too.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Buying an engagement ring is a special purchase, and you want to have confidence that the retailer will not only treat you well during buying your ring, but also that they will stand behind their product after the purchase too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris Jewellers offers a Jewellery Care Plan where you can choose from a 3 year or lifetime package to care your jewellery for free. There is an extra charge for these plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also have a 30 day return policy; this is a good amount of time to decide whether or not the ring is not right for you. This is very generous compared to other retailers in Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at reviews on Google, the reviews are spilt out by individual store. The Prince Albert store has a very impressive score of 4.8 from 488 reviews, indicating that people are very pleased with the service they have received from Paris Jewellers.<\/p>\n\n\n

Paris Jewellers value for money<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Buying a diamond ring is a big commitment \u2013 both financially and emotionally. So it\u2019s important that you ensure sure that you are getting good value for money and aren\u2019t spending more than you need to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, if you\u2019re buying an engagement ring, it\u2019s likely that you will have a wedding to pay for soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
